"What makes me feel better when I’m at home? Fresh flowers."

We’re all spending more time at home than normal, and we’re all a lot more stressed out than normal. You know what makes me feel better when I’m at home? Fresh flowers. I think it’s a trait I got from my mother and grandmother. For as long as I can remember, I have just loved having fresh flowers in my house. They not only look good and smell great, they also have such a sense of frivolity and urgency to the story they tell, all at the same time, that it translates to me as instant emotional connection. When my husband and I dated long distance, and later worked far apart, he had a set weekly delivery of flowers to me and it never failed to make me feel better about whatever stress I was carrying.

Now, more than ever, it’s a great time to send flowers. Most florists are locally owned businesses. And guess what? The cancellation of large public events like weddings, charity galas, Easter brunches, and the like means a lot of cancelled orders for flowers – orders that will not likely be re-made when the virus ends.I think we should all take a moment this week to send flowers to someone we love, just to tell them we love them. At the same time, it will let your local florist know that we appreciate them for all they do in our communities.Shopping for flowers can be done with complete social distancing, all while bringing you closer together with people who are important to you. It’s a great time of year to send irises, tulips, and lilies. So call up our friends at Helen Olivia or our neighbors at The Enchanted Florist, just three doors down from The Shoe Hive.
